Notes
Not a miracle century
"Scientific Revolution" is a historians' label with fuzzy edges. Treating it as a fireworks show of genius names misses the institutional story: how disagreements became productive rather than merely heretical.
What looks established
Instrument use, mathematization, and new forums for critique intensify in early modern Europe. How unique, how sudden, and how decisive for later growth remain actively debated.
Capability claim
The important unlock is a social technology for truth-seeking under uncertainty—imperfect, elite, exclusionary, and still powerful. Industrialization later industrializes some fruits of that capability.
